5 Ways to Keep Up With Social Media

Let us face it. This is the age of Social Media. It is the age where everything is integrated. Your mobile phone can access your messenger in the same way it can access your email. You can take your phone anywhere and you will receive updates on anything under the sun on the fly. Today, people have no reason not to get informed.
But one problem I am seeing with the height of social media, or in Tim O’Reilly’s terms, Web 2.0, is that there is just too much information and tools that it is very hard to get organized. Here is what I am doing to keep up and I hope it does the same for you.
Hit Lots of Birds with One Stone
It will really help you a lot if you take advantage of the mashups that are available on the internet. A mashup is a simple integration of two websites. Take Bingle for instance. It is a combination of Bing and Google. Although that is not social media it will let you search at two places at the same time.
There are also websites that allow you to do multiple things at the same time. One particular website I want to talk about in this page is ping.fm. It lets you post to multiple websites at once. There is also feedtweeter which feeds Twitter with activities from other sites through feeds. Take advantage of these for these are very helpful in cutting down your social media tasks.
Automate but Do Not Overdo It
There are also some applications which may let you automate some stuff. Feedtwitter for instance feed your Twitter updates with RSS feeds. With this, you do not need to manually post your blogs everytime. There is also Tweetlater which automates replies, follows and tweets. Use these to help you but not to do the entire job for you. The last thing that your audience wants is a robot.
Carry Everything with You
It will also be best to integrate everything into your mobile phone. This will give you the internet accessibility to keep yourself updated with the latest news. The best part is that you can also send your own updates through your phone. So you can keep others updated without directly logging on through your desktop or laptop.
Activate the Filter
With lots of information in social media, it is just normal to get lost. Now is the best time to activate your filter. You may wonder what I am talking about. Well, this filter will vary from person to person. It will be based on your interest and prior knowledge. Filter out the information and people that you do not need and stick only to those that you need. For example, following too many people on Twitter will only drown the important tweets of those people who you are actually concerned about. Cut down the people you follow and you will help yourself.
Contribute
You may wonder why I included this in the roster. Well, contributing is one way to make your social media campaign worthwhile. Just think about it. If you do not contribute, you are merely talking to yourself. You do not care whether people respond to you. This is one thing that a lot of people tend to forget. Social media, after all, is for conversational purposes.
With these said, I hope you can now utilize social media to its fullest

I liked this post, especially the ‘Contribute’ part. It is very true. In the Philippines, social media users are tending to forget the purpose of social media. Most of the youth make use of these sites merely for self-presentation. For someone like me who is online almost 24/7, social media must be maximized as its use has lots of potentials. Great post!
Hello there! I really like your post. It is very informative and easy to understand. Thanks for the website suggestion on ping.fm, this will be of great help for my project. The tips on Activate the filter is a good reminder to those who are looking for leads to joined them on their network.(I will soon need this). Hope you will make a topic about affiliate marketing next time!
