In the new web-connected society, you don't need to meet someone in real life to be a good friend, resource, or business partner. However, you have to be authentic and engaging if you want others to support and promote you. Perhaps later on you will actually meet at a business conference and end up with a new client. Or, if your friends all share the same interests or hobbies, you will find new creative ideas. I'm a big believer in serendipity - social media increases the odds of my stumbling upon something great or helpful to my real life. Excellent post Aira.
